The Odysseus lunar lander is resting sideways on the moon, according to a company called Intuitive Machines. They made this announcement during a news conference. Initially, the company had stated that Odysseus was upright after landing on the lunar surface. However, data later revealed that the spacecraft was likely tilted on its side due to one of its feet getting caught on a lunar rock. The CEO of Intuitive Machines demonstrated this issue using a model of the lander during a news briefing. The spacecraft remains stable, with its solar panels fully charging its batteries. Experimental technology payloads from NASA have already been tested. Intuitive Machines had to find a way to use a different navigation instrument on board due to a faulty piece of equipment. This unexpected fix allowed the spacecraft to make a successful landing. NASA and Intuitive Machines are still assessing if Odysseus can achieve its science objectives. The spacecraft is currently experiencing some data gathering issues, which are close to being resolved.
