Microsoft is reportedly asking its employees in China who work on cloud computing and artificial intelligence operations to consider relocating due to regulatory crackdowns on Beijing’s access to advanced technology. The company has allegedly offered the option for transfer to several countries, including the US, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand. The move is part of a broader effort by the US to prevent China from developing cutting-edge AI technology. The Biden administration is also considering implementing export controls on advanced AI models. Microsoft has been deeply integrated in China for over 30 years, operating its largest R&D center outside of the US in the country.
