Magnitude 5.8 earthquake strikes China's Xinjiang region

A 5.8-magnitude earthquake struck Akqi County in China’s northwestern Xinjiang region. The quake occurred at 12:14 p.m. (0414 GMT) on Sunday at a depth of 11 km (6.84 miles). No casualties or collapsed houses have been reported as of 1:00 p.m. The areas around the epicenter have low population density. The local main grid, power distribution networks, and train operations are unaffected. Another earthquake with a magnitude of 7.1 hit the Kyrgyzstan-Xinjiang border region on Jan. 23, resulting in at least three deaths.
