The European Union has set tariffs on China-made vehicles, benefiting Tesla by imposing lower tariffs compared to other electric carmakers. The EU originally increased tariffs on all electric cars imported from China due to unfair state subsidies. Tesla requested a recalculation of the rate and the European Commission set it at 9%, while other Chinese automakers faced additional tariffs ranging from 17% to 36.3%. The EU justified Tesla’s lower tariff by considering the subsidies the company received in China. This decision could provide Tesla with a competitive advantage against its major European competitor, SAIC.
