Since the start of his administration, President Biden has implemented a strategy to expand American military access to bases in allied nations across the Asia-Pacific region and deploy new weapons systems there. The US military has committed to defending Taiwan against a Chinese invasion. On Wednesday, President Biden signed a $95 billion supplemental military aid and spending bill, which includes $8.1 billion to counter China in the region. Secretary of State Antony Blinken recently traveled to Shanghai and Beijing to address China’s aggressive actions around Taiwan and the South China Sea.
